Week of 10/1/18

Hello Brave Community!
Happy Monday! It is October, which means that the school year is in full swing.  We are rocking and rolling in our classrooms.  There is evidence in our hallways and around our beautiful building of the exceptional teaching and learning experience that our amazing teachers are providing for all of our BRAVE students!
As a Leader in Me campus, we highlight one of the Seven Habits of Highly Effective People each week.  Our habit of the week this week is Habit 2: Begin with the End in Mind!   We teach and model for our students how to plan ahead and set goals.  We emphasize the importance of being prepared.

Word of the Week (WOW):
This week’s word is “Grace”.  It is a noun that means unmerited favor/kindness that has not been earned.  Partner with us in focusing on our campus WOW.  Ask your student to use the word in a sentence or perhaps you could be very intentional in your use of our word.  Thanks for your participation!

Watch DOGS:
Please consider becoming a member of our Watch DOGS (Dads of Great Students).  If you are already a member, don’t forget to sign up to be a presence on campus.  Our students and teachers LOVE having Watch Dogs on campus!  For more information, contact Rebel Paulk 512.470.4038 or DFTWDLeader@gmail.com

Reflections:
Our students are encouraged to participate in the Reflections contest.  This contest provides students a creative outlet in the areas of dance, choreography, film production, literature, music composition, photography and visual arts.  This year’s theme is “Heroes Around Me!”  Entry forms are available in the library.  The due date is October 26th.  I wish each participant the best of luck!

Brave Family Fun Night!
Save the date for our first ever Brave Family Fun Night!  The event will be on Tuesday, November 13, 2018, 5:30-7:30.  We will have amazing Math and Literacy activities that are directly connected to our Seven Habits of Highly Effective People.  AND, our Book Fair will be open that evening!  Please plan to attend!

Library Nights:
Library Nights are back!  Join us in the library most Tuesdays, from 6:00-7:00 p.m. for a Read Aloud and an activity.  The next few Library Nights are scheduled for 10/2, 10/16, 10/23 and 10/30.  We hope to see you there!

Birthday Book Club: (repeat from last week)
Birthday Book Club is a great opportunity to honor your student’s special day, as well as help the school by donating a book to the library!  For a donation of $15, your student will get to pick out a new hardcover book from our special Birthday Book Club shelves, have their picture taken for display in the front hallway outside the library, and be featured on the morning broadcast announcing their birthday and the book they’ve chosen to donate to the library.  A sticker will be placed inside the cover of the book with the student’s name and birth date so everyone knows who to thank for the addition of the great, new book!  And finally, your student will get to pick out a birthday Spirit Stick that is only available through Birthday Book Club.  For more information you can contact the library at 512-428-7411

Pet Clinic: (repeat from last week)
Take advantage of our Fall Pet Clinic; it is scheduled for Monday, October 22, 2018.  The hours are 6:00-7:00 p.m.

I want to partner with you to make this happen.  Please don’t hesitate to reach out to me or any member of my team in support of your child’s education.  We are ALL here to support and encourage our students to BE BRAVE, CHOOSE KIND and LEAD ON!
