Week of 10/22/18

Hello Brave Community!

Happy Monday Evening!  We ended last week on a high note.  Our amazing PTA partnered with Chuy’s, Chicken Express and Impact Family Chiropractic to provide our teachers and staff lunch.  The spread at the luncheon was delicious!  We are very appreciative of their thoughtfulness. We also appreciate the parents who donated dessert!  On Friday, we were extra excited about coming to work at DFT.  We were excited about the amazing teaching and learning experience that we provide for each of our BRAVE students, as well as the tasty lunch that was provided for us!

As a Leader in Me campus, we highlight one of the Seven Habits of Highly Effective People each week.  Our habit of the week this week is Habit 5: Seek First to Understand, then to be Understood!   We teach our students to listen to others and to try to understand the views and feelings of others, even if they are different from their own.

Word of the Week (WOW):
This week’s word is “fascinating”.  It is an adjective that means extremely interesting.  Partner with us in focusing on our campus WOW.  Ask your student to use the word in a sentence or perhaps you could be very intentional in your use of our word.  Thanks for your participation!

Reflections:
Our students are encouraged to participate in the Reflections contest.  This contest provides students a creative outlet in the areas of dance, choreography, film production, literature, music composition, photography and visual arts.  This year’s theme is “Heroes Around Me!” The due date is this Friday, October 26th!  I wish each participant the best of luck!

Trunk or Treat:
This family event begins on Friday at 6:00 p.m.  We will begin set up of games, car decorations and tables for our chili cook off at 5:00 p.m.  Please join us wearing your costume!  We will vote on best costume and best chili!  I hope to see you there!

Bond Information Meeting:
The Round Rock ISD community is invited to get their questions answered during our next Bond Open House at Joe Lee Johnson Elementary School, starting at 6:00 p.m.
If you are unable to attend the meetings, detailed information about the Bond proposal (which will be on the November 6, 2018 ballot) is now available on our district website at bond.roundrockisd.org.

7 Habits Family Training: (repeat from last week)
We are partnering with Teravista Elementary and Blackland Prairie Elementary to bring 7 Habits Family Training.  The training is based on Stephen Covey’s bestsellers The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People and The 7 habits of Highly Effective Families.  This family event will be held at Teravista Elementary on Saturday, October 27, 2018, 8:00-4:00.  Lunch will be provided for all who register. Click here to register.

STEAM Fair Judges: (repeat from last week)
Double File Trail Elementary is working hard to have a successful STEAM Fair.  We need volunteers to assist us in the vital role of project judge.  You do not need to be a science expert to participate as a STEAM Fair judge.  We will provide a rubric that expressly describes what each project type should include.  The amount of time we are asking for you to contribute is 2 hours.  If you can give more, it is appreciated.
STEAM Fair is January 24, 2019.  If you are interested in becoming a judge, email amy_moore @roundrockisd.org by December 19, 2018.

Winter Fest Registration: (repeat from last week)
Interested RRISD families will receive a holiday food basket.  Families with children in PreK through 5th Grade will receive holiday toys.  More information will be provided at registration on Wednesday, 10/24, 12:00-6:00 at the Hopewell Building located at Central Office.  You may also call 512.464.5614 for information.

Library Nights: (repeat from last week)
Library Nights are back!  Join us in the library most Tuesdays, from 6:00-7:00 p.m. for a Read Aloud and an activity.  The next couple Library Nights are scheduled for 10/23 and 10/30.  We hope to see you there!

Brave Family Fun Night! (repeat from last week)
Save the date for our first ever Brave Family Fun Night!  The event will be on Tuesday, November 13, 2018, 5:30-7:30.  We will have amazing Math and Literacy activities that are directly connected to our Seven Habits of Highly Effective People.  AND, our Book Fair will be open that evening!  Please plan to attend!

My Belief:
I consider it a privilege and a blessing to serve the Double File Trail Elementary Community as the principal.  I believe in our students and their ability to achieve excellence in education. I want to partner with you to make this happen.  Please don’t hesitate to reach out to me or any member of my team in support of your child’s education.  We are ALL here to support and encourage our students to BE BRAVE, CHOOSE KIND and LEAD ON!
