Weeks of 1.27.20 and 2.3.20

Hello Brave Community!

Happy Friday!  Today has been such an exciting day.  We started our day by announcing that (SLC teacher) Mrs. Sherrill Erwin is our Double File Trail Elementary Teacher of the year, and (SLC Educational Assistant) Mrs. Linda Richarte is our Double File Trail Elementary Humanitarian of the year!  I am thrilled to be on this DFT team with both of these deserving ladies providing a teaching and learning experience that positively impacts and inspires each of our BRAVE students!

As a Leader in Me campus, we highlight one of the Seven Habits of Highly Effective People each month.  Our habit of the month this month is Habit 4: Think Win-Win!   We teach our students how to think of others when problem solving.  Our goal is to arrive at solutions that benefit everyone involved.

Word of the Week (WOW):
The word of the week for 2/3-2/7 is “OMINOUS”.  It is an adjective that means the feeling that something bad is going to happen.  Partner with us in focusing on our campus WOW.  Ask your student to use the word in a sentence or perhaps you could be very intentional in your use of our word.  Thanks for your participation!

STAAR-Interim Testing:
Next week we will take practice STAAR tests in 3rd, 4th and 5th grade.  We will be a closed campus on these testing days.  Our goal is to ensure that our students are prepared to perform at high levels of mastery on STAAR (the State of Texas Assessment of Academic Readiness).  Administering STAAR-Interim assessments now will give us the data that we need to plan targeted instruction and intervention that meets the needs of each of our students.  Please partner with us at home by ensuring that your child is at school on time (always, but especially on testing days) and has a good night’s sleep before each assessment.  Thanks for your support!  The schedule for the week is:
Monday, February 3, 2020
3rd, 4th & 5th Grade Math
Tuesday, February 4, 2020
3rd, 4th & 5th Grade Reading

My Belief:
I consider it a privilege and a blessing to serve the Double File Trail Elementary Community as the principal.  I believe in our students and their ability to achieve excellence in education. I want to partner with you to make this happen.  Please don’t hesitate to reach out to me or any member of my team in support of your child’s education.  We are ALL here to support and encourage our students to BE BRAVE, CHOOSE KIND and LEAD ON!
