Brave Newsletter 7.28.20

Hello Brave Community!

Happy Tuesday! I hope that this newsletter finds you safe and well! It is also my hope that, despite limitations due to COVID-19, you have discovered ways to Sharpen your Saw (Ask your son/daughter about Habit 7!) during the Summer Break with family and friends. Over the last month, I’ve carved out time to enjoy rereading a couple of favorite books, assemble puzzles with my youngest daughter, and simply sit on the back porch to enjoy the summer air. All in all, I feel refreshed and am ready to start this new (and different) 2020-2021 school year with all of you! Please see my notes and news below.

Staying Connected:
The start of this school year will look differently than the start of any other school year. This week RRISD will be hosting two more Virtual Town Halls focusing on how on-campus learning will look. Today’s town hall will cover elementary schools and Thursday’s will cover middle and high school. Tonight’s Virtual Town Hall will be livestreamed on the Board Meeting Website. The meeting will begin at 5:30 p.m. If you are unable to watch the meeting live, recordings of the meetings will be available after on the Board Meeting website and the District’s Facebook page. For updates and FAQs, please visit our RRISD Reimagining Education website and the District’s Facebook and Twitter pages.

Virtual or On-Campus?:
If you have not already done so, please access this link to a parent choice form to indicate your choice of virtual or on-campus instruction. This will help us plan for the upcoming school year.

We are a Leader in Me Campus:
During the school year, we highlight one of the Seven Habits of Highly Effective People each week. When the school year begins, we will resume with a habit highlight. In the meantime, please remind our Brave students to continue to practice their seven habits at home. Thanks!
Habit 1: Be Proactive!
Habit 2: Begin with the End in Mind!
Habit 3: Put First Things First!
Habit 4: Think Win-Win!
Habit 5: Seek First to Understand, then to be Understood! Habit
6: Synergize! Habit
7: Sharpen the Saw!

Double File Trail Building Update:
If you have driven past Double File Trail in the past two months, you are well aware that our building is under major construction. The construction is slated to be complete early August, and we should be able to safely enter the building during the week of August 10, 2020. Many of you are waiting on the return of belongings that your child left behind before leaving for Spring Break in March. I will share our plan to return personal items next week after I meet with team leaders. We appreciate your patience and understanding.

Looking Ahead:
Tuesday, 7/28: Elementary Virtual Town Hall Meeting
Thursday, 7/30: Secondary Virtual Town Hall Meeting
Monday, 8/3: Site-Based Committee Meeting
Thursday, 8/20: First Day of School (100% Virtual)
Monday 9/7: Holiday: No School!
Thursday, 9/10: First Day that On-Campus Learning is an option

Summer Quote:
"Rest is not idleness, and to lie sometimes on the grass on a summer day listening to the murmur of water, or watching the clouds float across the sky is hardly a waste of time." John Lubbock

Lastly, I know that change can sometimes be tough to process. Please know that you are welcome to contact me at alifia_britton@roundrockisd.org with any questions or concerns that surface. Thank you in advance for teaming with us as we navigate this new school year to support our students. Stay healthy! Stay well! RRISD Strong! DFT Strong!

My Belief:
I consider it a privilege and a blessing to serve the Double File Trail Elementary Community as the principal. I believe in our students and their ability to achieve excellence in education. I want to partner with you to make this happen. Please don’t hesitate to reach out to me or any member of my team in support of your child’s education. We are ALL here to support and encourage our students to BE BRAVE, CHOOSE KIND and LEAD ON!
