Week of 9/17/18

Hello Brave Community!  I hope that you enjoyed your weekend and had the opportunity to do something that you enjoy.  I was able to spend some time with my extended family.  We gathered to celebrate the birthday of my niece, who happens to be an educator.  This was one of the rare occasions that there was no “shop talk” between the two of us.  However, I did take advantage of one opportunity (when asked how the school year was going) to share how great it is to be the principal at DFT!  It is a genuine feeling of pride.  I am pleased to be part of a hard working staff that provides an exceptional teaching and learning experience for all of our BRAVE students.

Word of the Week (WOW):
This week’s word is successful!  It is an adjective that describes the feeling that someone gets when they meet their goal.  Partner with us in focusing on our campus WOW.  Ask your student to use the word in a sentence or perhaps you could be very intentional in your use of our word.  Thanks for your participation!

Spirit Night:
Our first spirit night of the school year is Thursday, September 20, 2018.  Please join us at Chuck E. Cheese between the hours of 3:00-9:00 p.m.  A portion of the proceeds will be donated back to Double File Trail.  Be sure to let your cashier know that you are there in support of DFT.  Thanks for your support of our school and thanks to Chuck E. Cheese for partnering with us.

Pet Clinic:
Take advantage of our Fall Pet Clinic; it is scheduled for Monday, October 22, 2018.  The hours are 6:00-7:00 p.m.

Picture Day:
October 5th is Picture Day.  More information will follow.

Fundraiser:
Our first fundraiser is underway!  We have partnered with World’s Finest Chocolate.  Please contact the front office or your child’s teacher if your child did not bring home a permission slip to participate in our fundraiser.  We would like for everyone to be involved in supporting our great school.  The fundraiser ends on September 26, 2018.

Our PTA:
We have the most amazing PTA!  Our PTA does so much for our school.  Please join if you have not already done so.  Contact our office and we will provide you with additional information.

Site-Based Advisory Committee: (repeat from last week)
This committee is comprised of administrators, teachers, parents, community members and business members.  We meet four times each year with a goal of continuous school improvement.  In our meetings, we discuss the Campus Improvement Plan (CIP), campus initiatives and any other focus areas for the school year.  Our first meeting is September 24, 2018 at 3:15.

Bond 2018 Project Information: (repeat from last week)
Detailed information about the Bond proposal which will be on the November 6, 2018 ballot is now available on our District website at bond.roundrockisd.org.

Quote of the week: (I noticed this week’s quote on the wall at Hopewell M.S.)
"The wing structure of the hornet, in relation to its weight, is not suitable for flight, but he does not know this and flies anyway."  Albert Einstein

My Belief:
I consider it a privilege and a blessing to serve the Double File Trail Elementary community as the principal.  I believe in our students and their ability to achieve excellence in education. I want to partner with you to make this happen.  Please don’t hesitate to reach out to me or any member of my team in support of your child’s education.  We are ALL here to support and encourage our students to BE BRAVE, CHOOSE KIND and LEAD ON!
