Week of 10/15/18

Hello Brave Community!

Happy Monday! The weather has taken a pretty interesting turn.  It has gone from warm and sunny to cold and wet outdoors.  Please require that your child dress in warm clothing and wear a coat/jacket when the weather deems it necessary. Dressing appropriately is one way to help keep them healthy so that they can attend school. We love seeing their faces each day and want to ensure that each of our BRAVE students is present to engage in the amazing teaching and learning experience that is being provided for them!

As a Leader in Me campus, we highlight one of the Seven Habits of Highly Effective People each week.  Our habit of the week this week is Habit 4: Think Win-Win!   We teach our students how to think of others when problem solving.  Our goal is to arrive at solutions that benefit everyone involved.

Word of the Week (WOW):
This week’s word is “dependable”.  It is an adjective that means trustworthy and reliable.  Partner with us in focusing on our campus WOW.  Ask your student to use the word in a sentence or perhaps you could be very intentional in your use of our word.  Thanks for your participation!

Campus Distinction:
Double File Trail has just earned the recognition of a 2018 Leader in Me Lighthouse School of Academic Distinction! To meet the academic growth standard, the school must be at or above the 50th percentile and have shown a 5 percent growth from the previous year’s percentile ranking.  The percentile ranking for Double File Trail Elementary rose in 2018 to 68% up from 61% in 2017, showing exemplary academic growth.

7 Habits Family Training:

STEAM Fair Judges:
Double File Trail Elementary is working hard to have a successful STEAM Fair.  We need volunteers to assist us in the vital role of project judge.  You do not need to be a science expert to participate as a STEAM Fair judge.  We will provide a rubric that expressly describes what each project type should include.  The amount of time we are asking for you to contribute is 2 hours.  If you can give more, it is appreciated.
STEAM Fair is January 24, 2019.  If you are interested in becoming a judge, email amy_moore @roundrockisd.org by December 19, 2018.

Red Ribbon Week:
Red Ribbon Week is a drug and violence prevention campaign.  We will celebrate Red Ribbon Week during the week of 10/22.  There is a theme each day.  Please allow and encourage your child to participate as we raise awareness and teach our students to be brave, kind leaders.
