Week of 9/3/18


Hello Brave Community!  I hope that you enjoyed your Labor Day!  I did; I was able to get some much needed rest and relaxation.  

There are such amazing things happening each day at Double File Trail!  I get excited when I walk the building; there is authentic student engagement everywhere at DFT!  I am pleased that we are providing an exceptional teaching and learning experience for all of our BRAVE students.

Back to School Night:
We had an amazing turn out last night at Back to School Night!  Thanks to all of the families that were able to attend.  It was great meeting you.  I look forward to getting to know you better.  If you were not able to attend, I encourage you to reach out to your child’s teacher to receive the information that was shared last night.

Coffee and Conversation:
Thanks to all who joined me today in our beautiful library!  This event was well attended! It was great connecting with you in such an intimate setting and sharing with you the direction in which we are moving as a campus.  Our next Coffee with the Principal will be the early part of November.  I will give you plenty of notice so that you have the opportunity to plan accordingly.

Fundraiser:
Our first fundraiser is underway!  We have partnered with Worlds Finest Chocolate.  Please contact the front office or your child’s teacher if your child did not bring home a permission slip to fund raise.  We would like for everyone to be involved in supporting our great school.

PTA Membership Social:
Our PTA will hold its Membership Social on Thursday, 9/13.  Our PTA does so much for school.  Please plan to attend the social and join.  If you have already joined or join that evening, you get to enjoy a yummy baked potato and salad for FREE.  I will be there and I hope that you will attend as well.

School Report Card/Distinction: (repeat from last week)
Our school report card is out.  To view it click here.  While there is always room for improvement, we did well.  As a matter of fact, we earned our first distinction from the Texas Education Agency (TEA)!  We earned our distinction for being in the Top 25% of our comparison group in Academic Growth.  This is a huge honor!

Site-Based Advisory Committee: (repeat from last week)
This committee is comprised of administrators, teachers, parents, community members and business members.  We meet four times each year with a goal of continuous school improvement.  In our meetings, we discuss the Campus Improvement Plan (CIP), campus initiatives and any other focus areas for the school year.  Our first meeting is September 24, 2018.

Bond 2018 Project Information: (repeat from last week)
Detailed information about the Bond proposal which will be on the November 6, 2018 ballot is now available on our District website at bond.roundrockisd.org.

My Belief:
I consider it a privilege and a blessing to serve the Double File Trail Elementary Community as the principal.  I believe in our students and their ability to achieve excellence in education. I want to partner with you to make this happen.  Please don’t hesitate to reach out to me or any member of my team in support of your child’s education.  We are ALL here to support and encourage our students to BE BRAVE, CHOOSE KIND and LEAD ON!

Hello Brave Community!  Happy Friday! Today was an amazing day filled with tons of teaching and learning. We ended our day with the excitement of Brave Hour!  Students were gardening, creating visual art, planning a stage play, playing checkers/chess and so much more. New Arrival Procedure Begins Tomorrow!

  Hello Brave Community!  Happy Wednesday evening! We are off to an amazing school year!  Thanks for your patience and support as we launched this new school year!  For the first two days of the school year we were happy to offer our families the opportunity to walk students to class to meet the teacher and observe the new learning environment. Beginning tomorrow, Thursday, 8/17, we will shift to our more permanent arrival procedures. All students will continue to enter through the main entrance Students opting to eat breakfast at school will go directly to the the cafeteria (except for PK; they will go to the library and be escorted to class at 7:25, and then have breakfast at 7:45 with their teachers) PK-2nd Grade students not eating breakfast will go directly to the library 7:10-7:25 3rd-5th Grade students not eating breakfast will go directly to the gym 7:10-7:25 All students will will be released to head to class at 7:25 (PK & Kinder will be escorted by staff The cafe

  Hello Brave Community!  Happy Tuesday! I hope that you all had a delightful and restful Thanksgiving Break! I enjoyed time with my family, as well as some really tasty food! I am also enjoying the cooler weather. On that note, please accept my reminder to send your child to school each day that it is cold or even cool outside with a coat or jacket.  If your child does not own a coat or a jacket and you need our help providing one, please contact our lead counselor at clarissa_hollenshead@roundrockisd.org.
