Week of 8.26.19

Hello Brave Community!

I hope that you are able to stay cool and hydrated, considering the extremely hot weather we are experiencing.  There are such amazing things happening each day at Double File Trail!  Our teachers continue to do an exceptional job of planning authentically engaging activities for our student.  Our goal is to provide an exceptional teaching and learning experience for all of our Brave students.

As a Leader in Me campus, we highlight one of the Seven Habits of Highly Effective People each week.  Our habit of the week this week is Habit 3: Put First Things First!   We teach our students to prioritize and spend time on things that are most important.

Word of the Week (WOW):
This week’s word is “stellar”.  It is an adjective that means outstanding.  Partner with us in focusing on our campus WOW.  Ask your student to use the word in a sentence or perhaps you could be very intentional in your use of our word.  Thanks for your participation!

Back to School Night:
Please join us on Thursday, August 29, 2019 for Back to School Night.  We will provide essential information that will help ensure a successful year.  There will be two sessions for the convenience of families with more than one student enrolled at DFT; this should allow families to fully attend two sessions without missing parts of team/teacher presentations.  Between the two sessions there will be a brief message from me, as well as a couple of introductions.  The schedule we will follow is:
Session I: 5:30-6:00 p.m.
Message from Principal Britton: 6:02-6:08 p.m. in the Cafeteria
Session II: 6:10-6:40 p.m.

School Report Card/TEA Distinctions:
Our school report card is out.  To view it, click here.  While there is always room for improvement, we did well.  As a matter of fact, we earned two distinctions from the Texas Education Agency (TEA)!  We earned one distinction for Postsecondary Readiness and the other for Academic Achievement in Language Arts/Reading.  This is a huge honor!

Coffee and Conversation:
Please join me for my first Coffee and Conversation with parents on Friday, September 6, 2019.  I am very much interested in getting to know you, as well providing an opportunity for you to get to know me and the vision I have for our campus.  We will begin immediately following announcements at 7:45 a.m.

Site-Based Advisory Committee (SBAC):
We have established our SBAC, but will gladly welcome additional members.  This committee is comprised of administrators, teachers, parents, community members and business members.  We meet four times each year with a goal of continuous school improvement.  In our meetings, we discuss the Campus Improvement Plan (CIP), campus initiatives and any other focus areas for the school year.  Our first meeting is September 30, 2019.

My Belief:
I consider it a privilege and a blessing to serve the Double File Trail Elementary Community as the principal.  I believe in our students and their ability to achieve excellence in education. I want to partner with you to make this happen.  Please don’t hesitate to reach out to me or any member of my team in support of your child’s education.  We are ALL here to support and encourage our students to BE BRAVE, CHOOSE KIND and LEAD ON!
