Hello Brave Community! 

Happy Monday! This week marks the beginning of a new season; Happy Autumn!  I am seriously looking forward to cooler weather.  Cooler weather will provide more enjoyable recess periods and brain breaks from the exceptional teaching and learning experiences that our amazing teachers are providing for all of our BRAVE students!

As a Leader in Me campus, we highlight one of the Seven Habits of Highly Effective People each week.  Our habit of the week this week is Habit 7: Sharpen the Saw!   We teach our students the importance of having balance.  We encourage them to take care of themselves by eating right, exercising and getting enough sleep.

Brave Hour!:
This is our Double File Trail spin on Genius Hour.  On Fridays, we follow our Brave Hour Schedule.  Basically, we start our regular school day activities an hour later so that our students have the opportunity to learn through discovery.  Students select their Brave Hour engagement from a menu of activities on Thursdays before the end of the school day. On Fridays at 7:50 am, immediately following broadcast, students engage in Brave Hour.  The last 15 minutes of Brave Hour is reserved for an individual writing reflection.  The exception to Brave Hour on Fridays is the last Friday of each month, during which we still follow our Brave Hour schedule to allow participation in our monthly Pep Rally and Tribe Time.  As noted here, Fridays are a BIG deal at Double File Trail!

Word of the Week (WOW):
This week’s word is “persevere”.  It is a verb that means to try to do something, even when it is hard.  Partner with us in focusing on our campus WOW.  Ask your student to use the word in a sentence or perhaps you could be very intentional in your use of our word.  Thanks for your participation!

Pet Clinic:
Take advantage of our Fall Pet Clinic; it is scheduled for Monday, October 21, 2019.  The hours are 6:00-7:00 p.m.

My Belief:
I consider it a privilege and a blessing to serve the Double File Trail Elementary Community as the principal.  I believe in our students and their ability to achieve excellence in education. Hello Brave Community!  Happy Friday! Today was an amazing day filled with tons of teaching and learning. We ended our day with the excitement of Brave Hour!  Students were gardening, creating visual art, planning a stage play, playing checkers/chess and so much more. New Arrival Procedure Begins Tomorrow!

  Hello Brave Community!  Happy Wednesday evening! We are off to an amazing school year!  Thanks for your patience and support as we launched this new school year!  For the first two days of the school year we were happy to offer our families the opportunity to walk students to class to meet the teacher and observe the new learning environment. Beginning tomorrow, Thursday, 8/17, we will shift to our more permanent arrival procedures. All students will continue to enter through the main entrance Students opting to eat breakfast at school will go directly to the the cafeteria (except for PK; they will go to the library and be escorted to class at 7:25, and then have breakfast at 7:45 with their teachers) PK-2nd Grade students not eating breakfast will go directly to the library 7:10-7:25 3rd-5th Grade students not eating breakfast will go directly to the gym 7:10-7:25 All students will will be released to head to class at 7:25 (PK & Kinder will be escorted by staff The cafe

  Hello Brave Community!  Happy Tuesday! I hope that you all had a delightful and restful Thanksgiving Break! I enjoyed time with my family, as well as some really tasty food! I am also enjoying the cooler weather. On that note, please accept my reminder to send your child to school each day that it is cold or even cool outside with a coat or jacket.  If your child does not own a coat or a jacket and you need our help providing one, please contact our lead counselor at clarissa_hollenshead@roundrockisd.org.
